Team Full Tilt's Pro Phil Gordon Wins 4th Annual Ante Up For Africa Tournament At The WSOP.
Team Full Tilt's Phil Gordon donated his first-place prize money to charity after winning the 4th Annual "Ante Up For Africa" poker tournament at the World Series of Poker* this week in Las Vegas, USA. Phil Gordon won the 2003 World Poker Tour (WPT) tournament and five WSOP final tables. To date, he has banked over $2.1 million in career tournament earnings.
A total of 83 players entered the $5,000 buy-in tournament which has become an integral part of the World Series of Poker*. The field consisted of both professional poker players and well-known poker celebrities. Stars such as Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Evander Holyfield and Jerome Bettis all showed their poker prowess.
A quick-blind structure ensured poker players were heading for the rails at regular intervals and by the time Alex Filatov departed in third place, the remaining pair were playing shove poker. Gordon didn't have to wait long for the right position and when his opponent moved all in with K-10 Gordon quickly called with Q-3. The board ran Q-6-8-A-5 and the pair of queens gave Gordon the first prize.
The Team Full Tilt member donated 100% of his $130,641 tournament winnings back to the charity. All told, the event raised a total of $275K for its projects in Africa.
Ante Up For Africa is a non-profit organization which provides lifesaving assistance for people in places such as Darfur, Sudan. It was co-founded by Don Cheadle, Annie Duke and Norman Epstein and since its inception has raised over $3 million for charity.
Don Cheadle is an official Friend of Full Tilt Poker, and last year Full Tilt Poker hosted a special FTOPS event on behalf of Ante Up For Africa.
