Day Two - Monte Carlo Millions Culminates Into U.S. vs. Scandinavian Showdown.
(Monte-Carlo, Monaco) - In Day Two of the Monte Carlo Millions, the world's most exclusive poker tournament, the field narrowed to a final table consisting of the top four Americans, two Finnish, two Swedish players and one British player. Leading the group are Phil Ivey, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Vincent "Vinny Nap" Napolitano, who have dominated the tournament from the outset.David "Devilfish" Ulliot, Dan Alsbach, Harry Demitreou and Freddy Deeb got the jolt of a lifetime when their Amsterdam-bound flight was intercepted by a bolt of lightening and the plane was forced to return to Nice. All four players are fine and anticipating a new good-luck streak while back in Monte-Carlo during the "electrifying" Monte Carlo Millions Consolation tournament, scheduled for Day Three.
Day Two Monte Carlo Millions highlights:
- "Miami" John Cerruto won the biggest pot of the day ($190,000) from Juha Helppi, currently fourth in chips. Ultimately Miami John was eliminated by Phil Ivey who stands in first place with $404,500 in chips.
- Chris Ferguson made the climactic move of the evening, knocking out Xuyen "Bad Girl" Pham to close the final table. "Jesus" is now positioned as a serious contender to win the tournament with $281,000 in chips.
- The fierce Finns, Juha Helppi and Jani Sointula have quietly built their stacks to $240,000 and $160,000 in chips respectively and are in solid positions for the final table.
- Daniel Larsson ($87,000) and Krister Hansson ($44,000) of Sweden are two of the youngest players in the event. Both are thrilled to be playing their poker idols, and looking forward to perhaps beating them as well.
- French singing sensation Patrick Bruel was knocked out of the tournament in 25th place on Day Two, but was a major attraction for French poker fans who came to see him at the event.
Play for the final table will begin on Thursday, November 11th at 12:00pm in the Sporting d'Hiver in Monte Carlo.
Transatlantic Poker Cup
Today, Wednesday, November 10, 2004, begins the Transatlantic Poker Cup as the US teams goes "head-up" against the UK for $100,000 and the chance to take home the cup. The match ups are:
