33-Year-Old Hawaiian Poker Pro Michael Chow Wins First WSOP Bracelet From Event 4.
33-year-old professional poker player from Honolulu, Michael Chow became the second Hawaiian to win a WSOP Gold bracelet. What made the victory sweeter for Chow, who spends most of his time playing poker in Las Vegas and the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, was that the final table wrapped up during the early hours of his 33rd birthday! Michael, formerly a real estate broker and investor, decided to play poker full time in 2007. He now has $643,237 in career tournament earnings, with 6 WSOP finishes in the money.
Michael Chow won his first World Series of Poker bracelet by defeating the 818-player field in the Event 4: $1,500 Omaha high-low split. The 3rd-largest Omaha high-low split event on the 2010 WSOP created a massive prize pool of $1,104,300, with Chow taking home his cool $237,463 first prize.
"This means a lot," said Michael Chow after his remarkable win. "I have been working hard trying to make a living for the past four or five years. I made a final table at the WSOP before, and I won a Bellagio event. So I have had cashes here and there. But to win a gold bracelet, that's everything to me. This means everything right here. It makes me feel a lot better about everything I am doing."
Chow defeated fellow pro Dan Heimiller after a lengthy heads-up battle to win the event. Both poker players were all-in for their tournament life at one point or another, and it seemed that the short stack was just always destined to double up. Heimiller was the only player entering the final table to hold WSOP gold, but fell short of winning another Gold bracelet, a feeling he unfortunately has felt often. This was his second runner-up finish at the WSOP so far, along with 2 other third-place finishes. Nevertheless, Heimiller now has about $3 million in poker career earnings.
Dan Heimiller is a 48-year-old poker pro from Las Vegas who won his gold bracelet back in 2002 in the Seven-Card Stud championship.
Among the other notable finishers was the 2008 November Niner Ylon Schwartz. A former chess master originally from New York City, he is best known for finishing 4th in the 2008 WSOP Main Event and was part of the original "November Nine." After the 2008 WSOP main event, Schwartz has made 2 more final tables on this prestigious tournament, finishing third in both of them. Schwartz now collected more than $4 million in WSOP winnings alone.
The fourth-place finisher was Fred Koubi, from Van Nuys, CA. A fixture at major poker tournaments for many years, Koubi now has 4 WSOP cashes. The fifth-place finisher was Scott Epstein, from Las Vegas, who now has 8 WSOP cashes. Other notable poker faces from the Event 4 are Jeff Madsen on the 12th place, Huck Seed on the 18th place and David Bach with 24th place.
